Gemstones Advanced radiation processing can change the color of gemstones or make them more vibrant. Topaz, which is mined clear, turns to Swiss Blue, Sky Blue or London Blue when treated with e-beam radiation. When treated with gamma radiation, the color of quartz, tourmaline, aquamarine and emerald gemstones can similarly be enhanced.
